Pre-Owned Patek Philippe Nautilus Ref. 5980

Introduced at Baselworld in 2006 for the Nautilus 30th anniversary, ref. 5980 was the first Nautilus chronograph. Ref. 5980 used the CH 28-520 C, an in-house self-winding flyback chronograph introduced in 2006. The first entirely in-house self-winding chronograph was the 5960P's CH 28-520 IRM QA 24H. Its low-friction vertical disc clutch allows the central chronograph hand to run continuously as sweep seconds, while the bull's-eye register at 6 o'clock combines 60-minute and 12-hour displays on concentric scales. The framed date remains at 3 o'clock. The original 5980/1A-001 paired steel with a blue-to-black gradient dial. A darker charcoal version followed in 2010, then the short-lived silvered-white 5980/1A-019 in 2012. The family expanded into rose gold on leather, full rose gold, two-tone construction, and diamond-set Haute Joaillerie executions. Patek Philippe replaced the steel-bracelet 5980/1A in its catalog with ref. 5990/1A in 2014. White gold returned the chronograph in 2024 through the 5980/60G-001, which featured a slimmer bezel, enlarged dial opening, blue-gray opaline dial, and two supplied straps. Production across the reference family runs from 2006 to the present. The steel 5980/1A is discontinued, but the 5980 family remains represented by current executions such as the 5980/60G-001. Water resistance varies by execution; for example, the original steel 5980/1A is rated to 120 m, while the 5980/60G-001 is rated to 30 m.
