About the Rolex GMT-Master
The Rolex GMT-Master was originally developed in the 1950s as a pilot's watch in collaboration with Pan Am Airways. This dual-time zone toolwatch quickly became a favorite among frequent travelers and is now one of the most iconic vintage Rolex models. Though eventually succeeded by the GMT-Master II , the original GMT-Master remains a legend in its own right, especially for collectors of vintage Rolex watches.
The Rolex GMT-Master introduced the now-iconic rotating 24-hour bezel and fourth GMT hand to simultaneously track multiple time zones. Most known for its two-tone "Pepsi" bezel in red and blue, the model has also been released with other collectible bezel inserts such as the brown and gold "Root Beer" and black and red "Coke." The GMT-Master was also offered in stainless steel, two-tone steel and gold, and solid gold, making it a versatile platform for functional luxury. Early references like 6542, 1675, and 16750 are among the most sought-after vintage Rolex watches on the market.
