The Patek Philippe Grand Complications Ref. 5059R is an 18K rose-gold perpetual calendar wristwatch with a retrograde date, moon phase display, leap-year indication, center seconds, and Officer-style case construction. Introduced in 1998, the 5059 followed Ref. 5050, Patek Philippe's first series-produced perpetual calendar wristwatch with a retrograde date. Like the 5050, it was among the first Patek perpetual calendars since references 2497 and 2438-1 to restore center seconds. Its 36 mm case has a hinged solid-gold back protecting a sapphire display back, along with an onion-shaped crown, elongated lugs, and protruding screwed spring bars. The regular-production 5059R-001 ran from 1998 to 2006, pairing a white matte dial and painted black Roman numerals with the automatic Cal. 315 S-QR movement family, also commonly identified as Cal. 315/136. It was succeeded by the larger Ref. 5159. Phillips estimates that fewer than 1,400 examples of the 5059 were produced across all four metals, including approximately 340 in rose gold.
