About The Brand

With the launch of the Rolex Submariner in 1953 and Omega Seamaster in 1955, Breitling released its own diving watch, the Breitling Superocean, in 1957. The first Superocean was water resistant up to 200 meters, which impressively stood out against competing watches at the time. Over the years, the Breitling Superocean was tweaked with new features, like an automatic helium escape valve that allows the watch to withstand incredible underwater pressure. In 2007, Breitling commemorated the Superocean’s 50th anniversary with the launch of the Superocean Heritage Collection . Interested in browsing intriguing Heritage models? Today’s Breitling Superocean collection features an array of watches in different sizes, materials, and colors—just take the orange dial ref. A17360 for example. Sporty and bold, the Superocean is built for exceptional performance in and out of the water. Designed with large Arabic numbers and oversized hands, these features allow divers to easily read underwater.

Important launches of the Breitling Superocean include the Superocean Chronograph ref. 2005 in 1964, the Superocean 2005 Execution 2 in 1971, the Superocean Heritage in 2007, and the Superocean Heritage II in 2017. Over the years, Breitling has released Superocean special edition models, like the Steelfish 42mm in 2005, surviving depths up to 1,500 meters. In 2006, Breitling introduced the Steelfish X-Plus, which was water resistant up to 2,000 meters. Then in 2007, Breitling discontinued the Steelfish X-Plus, removing the X-Plus from the name and returning to the original Steelfish namesake. This Steelfish model was available from 2007-2012, keeping the larger 44mm size case and 2000m water resistance.
