Pre-Owned Patek Philippe Grand Ellipse Ref. 3589
Introduced in 1970, the Patek Philippe Grand Ellipse ref. 3589 is an automatic, lugless dress watch shaped according to the golden section. Its strap attaches to posts on the case back, preserving the uninterrupted profile between its elliptical and rectangular forms.
The reference was the first Patek Philippe fitted with automatic calibre 28-255, a 2.45 mm-thick, 36-jewel full-rotor movement developed with Jaeger-LeCoultre. Its architecture later appeared in the Patek Philippe Nautilus ref. 3700, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and Vacheron Constantin 222. Ref. 3589 encompassed separate executions: the yellow-gold 3589J and white-gold 3589G on leather straps, the integral-bracelet 3589/1 in yellow or white gold, and the white-gold 3589/900 with documented Onyx and Lapis Lazuli dials. Standard production is generally described as ending in 1979, while documented 3589/900 examples extend the reference through 1989.
Our collection may include a Grand Ellipse 3589/1J in 18K yellow gold, with a silvered Roman numeral dial, automatic movement, woven bracelet, original papers dated 1982, and an Extract from the Archives documenting its manufacture year. Every watch is authenticated and backed by The 1916 Company's 2-year warranty.
