Pre-Owned Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse Ref. 3548J

The Patek Philippe Ellipse ref. 3548J is a manual-winding dress watch produced from 1968 through 1976. Introduced alongside the conventionally lugged ref. 3546, it was one of the first two Golden Ellipse references and established the hidden-lug architecture that defines this model. Its compact 27 x 32 mm case is made from 18K yellow gold, with hooded lugs that allow a leather strap to disappear beneath the case. A snap-on back encloses the manual Calibre 23-300PM. The signature first-generation dial is blue-gold, created from an 18K gold base treated with cobalt and 24K gold. Documented watches also confirm champagne and gilt executions, so dial originality and condition require attention when comparing examples. The standard 3548J was supplied on a leather strap, while the separate 3548/1J execution paired the same case and movement format with an integrated Milanese or woven yellow-gold bracelet. The Golden Ellipse was introduced in 1968, its form shaped around the golden section and described by Patek Philippe as sitting between a circle and a rectangle.
