Watches & Wonders 2026: Jaeger-LeCoultre Launches The Master Control Chronomètre Collection, And A New Precision Standard

Three new integrated bracelet models, and the new HPG High Precision Guarantee.

Jaeger-LeCoultre has just announced a new collection of watches in the Master Control Collection. The Master Control Chronomètre timepieces consist of three new models: the Master Control Chronomètre Date Power Reserve; the Master Control Chronomètre Perpetual Calendar; and the Master Control Chronomètre Date. At launch, the two of the new models will be available in steel or pink gold, with one in steel only, and all watches are integrated bracelet models, featuring a new integrated, three row tapered bracelet.

In addition to the introduction of the new integrated bracelet sports models, JLC is also introducing a new precision standard. The new standard is the High Precision Guarantee, or HPG, which combines chronometer certification from the COSC with a new internal testing regimen which reproduces several successive cycles of daily wear, and which also specifies eight traditional decorative techniques for any watch carrying the HPG certification.

The Master Control Chronomètre Date is the simplest new model, but with all the signature elements of the new Master Control Chronomètre models. Sizing is classic at 38mm x 8.4mm, and it many respects this is a watch that represents JLC’s identity as a maker of elegant, relatively thin watches. Interestingly, the Master Control Chronomètre date will remind enthusiasts of watches which JLC was part of as a movement constructor, but which had the names of other brands on the dial – including the Vacheron Constantin 222, which was originally introduced with the JLC caliber 920.

Designing an integrated bracelet watch is probably a significant challenge in this day and age, especially if you want to do something which feels connected to the larger history of the genre; bracelets in particular run the risk of looking imitative on the one hand, or forced on the other but the structure of the Master Control Chronomètre watches feels very well thought through, with the thin, sharply beveled intermediate links adding character without feeling as if they are striving too hard for novelty.

The Master Control Chronomètre Perpetual Calendar is despite its complexity, almost exactly the same dimensions as the Date model, at 39mm x 9.2mm.

Everything about the general layout is straight from the classic wristwatch perpetual calendar playbooks, with the moonphase at 6:00 and the other calendar indications distributed around it. The movement, JLC caliber 868, is a workhouse automatic perpetual calendar movement, which JLC has used in the Master Control collection for many years; here the distinguishing factor it the new integrated bracelet case. Unlike some other perpetual calendars, the Master Control Chronomètre Perpetual calendar has a center seconds hand, rather than a small seconds hand (which, in perpetual calendars, often shares space in a subdial with a moonphase display).

Finally, there’s the Master Control Date Power Reserve. The watch has a configuration which will be familiar to JLC enthusiasts; the layout recalls that of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Futurematic, which was made between 1951 and 1959. The Futurematic was an automatic with no crown for widing the mainspring, which was wound entirely by the automatic winding system; there was a flat crown on the back of the watch for setting the time only. The new Master Control Chronomètre Date Power reserve does have a conventional crown but it also reproduces the dial layout of the Futurematic.

The Master Control Chronomètre Power Reserve, unlike the other two MCC models, is available only in steel, in a 39mm x 9.2mm case. The watch is powered by a new caliber designed specifically to support the power reserve display and the symmetrically arranged date display. The bracelet is identical as well, with the collection’s signature three links across  integrated bracelet and prism-shaped center link.

Finally, there is the HPG certification program. There has been for several years now a move in the industry to create brand-specific certification programs, which generally build on COSC certification with additional requirements, testing procedures, and more comprehensive examination of the watch as a whole. According to Jaeger-LeCoultre, HPG certification includes:

  • Testing precision at different atmospheric pressures and altitudes
  • Shock testing (for the cased watch)
  • Rating in positions (for the cased watch)
  • Rating to temperatures between 18ºC and 35ºC

… as well as sequential testing designed to simulate day and night cycles of activity and inactivity, over a two day period, as well as an additional precision check over a 24 hour period in which the watch is immobile, as if resting on a table or nightstand. The HPG designation is also a nod to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s history; the acronym was first used in the 1960s for watches using the calibers 910, 911, and 916, which ran at frequencies higher than 18,000 vph, and which were advertised as offering guaranteed precision.

These new watches are clearly designed to fill a perceived market demand but there is also much about them that connects to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s own history, not just as a watchmaker, but as an indispensable supplier of prestige movements to the industry at large (including complications) Designs are elegantly self-sufficient; the movements are highly reliable known quantities, and the new HPG certification delivers additional reassurances of sturdiness, attention to detail, and precision.
