Mission of Mermaids: Girard-Perregaux’s Redesigned Hawk Helps Save the Oceans.

Designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller, this Mission of Mermaids (MOM) collection from Girard-Perregaux commemorates Ms. Rockefeller’s  documentary, which uses the archetype of the mermaid as an ode to the sea and as a plea for its protection.

“Girard-Perregaux’s timepieces remind us of how precious time is, and their support is a great reassurance to us,” said Rockefeller. “We have very limited time to save our oceans. My hope is that Mission of Mermaids will inspire people to reflect on the importance of preserving our environment.”

Seahawk

The Seahawk takes its name from Girard-Perregaux first generation Hawk from the 1940s. This new Sea Hawk, designed in collaboration with Susan Rockefeller, is inspired by the green color found in nature, and the mermaid representation on the case back is a plea for the protection of the world’s oceans.

The steel and rubber case measures 48.90mm by 46.20mm, and it is water resistant to 1,000 meters. Inside is the Girard-Perregaux self-winding movement, GP03300-0074, with hours, minutes, small seconds, date and power reserve indicator; the power reserve is a minimum of 46 hours. The watch comes on a black rubber strap with a steel folding buckle. The green accents on the dial and case back are an elegant reminder of the provenance of this watch.

For Women

The Girard-Perregaux Small Chronograph MOM features 48 brilliant-cut diamonds on the bezel and a column wheel chronograph movement visible through the openwork dial. This watch, too, was designed in collaboration with Ms. Rockefeller, and it is destined for the wrists of women who care about protecting our planet. The motto, “Protect what is precious,” is visible on the watch.

Inside the 32mm steel case beats the self-winding Girard-Perregaux movement, GP30C0-S0NSS-006A with a power reserve of 36 hours. Functions include hours, minutes, small seconds and a column wheel chronograph. The watch comes on a light gray calf skin leather or matte orange strap, each with a steel folding buckle.

In 2011, Susan and David Rockefeller established the Protect What Is Precious Initiative to make the world “a more loving, peaceful and healthy place by protecting family, art and nature.” And the Mission of Mermaids special editions are tangible expressions of their intentions.
