Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Hometime: At Home, In Action…
The Reverso Squadra Hometime takes the Reverso back to its roots. As the original Jaeger-LeCoultre “sports watch,” the 1931 Reverso was designed for a life of action, and the 51mm x 35mm stainless steel Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Hometime is the 21st century spiritual successor to its acclaimed ancestor.
The 2006-present Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra lineup restores the Reverso’s credibility as an active lifestyle companion. With greater water resistance, shock resistance, and wrist presence than the traditional rectangular Reverso models, the Reverso Squadra Hometime is an unbeatable combination of versatility and masculinity.
The Squadra story opens with a reversible case of polished stainless steel. Its mobile segment rotates with the crisp acton of a rifle bolt to cycle between the dual-time dial and a panoramic view of its motive power. The traditional finishing Jaeger-LeCoultre elements are present in force; horizontal “gadroon” strakes grace the rotating case, and overlapping swirls of “perlage” adorn the underlying case chassis.
The Reverso Squadra Hometime’s silver dial is a striking case study in Jaeger-LeCoultre’s deft balance of complication and elegance. The dual-time function is expressed via a second skeletal hour hand at center and an AM/PM indicator at nine o’clock. When not required, the skeletal reference hour hand can be hidden under the superimposed solid local hour hand to clean up the dial.
Jaeger-LeCoultre matches the complexity of its functions with a dial that pays deference to the Reverso’s Art Deco heritage. Period-inspired Arabic numerals, a transverse guilloche center section, and polished broadsword hands. The date and AM/PM windows are composed with dramatic black discs that pop against the silver plane of the dial.
Within the massive steel case, Jaeger-LeCoultre equips the Reverso Squadra with a caliber 977 automatic movement. Few Reverso models in the line’s 80+ year history have known the convenience of automatic winding, and this distinction is central to the Reverso Squadra’s identity as a modern sports watch.
Moreover, the rugged caliber 977 is built on Jaeger-LeCoultre’s bombproof “Autotractor” architecture. With a full balance bridge, free-sprung balance, laser-welded hairspring, and ceramic winding-rotor bearings, the caliber 977 is built tank-tough. And not “Cartier Tank”- tough; think Patton. With a 50-hour power reserve, hacking seconds, and validation via Jaeger-LeCoultre’s grueling Master 1000-Hour Control regiment, this caliber has the goods.
