Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT “Palermo Open”
The iconic Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso was born as a sports watch. But the Reverso’s origin as a solution for shielding a watch crystal from polo mallets has lapsed into an historic footnote.
Enter the Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT “Palermo Open.”
A true 21st century Reverso sports watch, the Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT restores the relevance of the Reverso in the sporting sector.
The Squadras debuted in 2006 as larger and more robust versions of the Reverso. A true return to the model’s roots, the Squadra’s square case more closely resembles the original 1930s patents than does the more common rectangular Reverso. Moreover, the Squadras incorporate improved water resistance, shock resistance, and complications that are relevant to sporting applications.
The Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT Palermo Open edition combines a rugged stainless steel case sheathed in protective black rubber. The look is sporting, and the effect is practical protection for the timepiece. A non-nonsense canvas strap completes the go-anywhere ensemble, and the chronograph keeps track of events during competition.
Speaking of the chronograph, it is provided by a Jaeger-LeCoultre in-house caliber 754. Uniquely among Reversos, the Squadras are automatic watches. While most Reversos built since 1931 have been-manual wind watches, the automatic Squadras break the mold and add a superb 65-hour power reserve for good measure.
All elements of the Squadra’s “engine” can be admired through the display window on the reverse side of the rotating case.
A vertical clutch and column wheel ensure that the chronograph in the Squadra operates in a fashion worthy of the industry’s best. These refinements ensure smooth stop, start, and reset action while providing the caliber of tactile response that a user expects from an haute horologerie product.
The independently-adjustable GMT dial at 6 o’clock completes the Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT’s catalog of complications.
Today, Argentina’s Palermo Open is a marquee event on the Polo World Cup calendar. 83 years after the first Reverso cut its teeth on the polo fields of India, the Squadra “Palermo Open” returns the Reverso to its roots. Available with a full factory set, this Reverso Squadra Chronograph GMT Palermo Open is the ultimate active lifestyle companion for Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso enthusiasts.
