In Focus: H. Moser x MB&F Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon Funky Blue
This year we celebrate the 220th anniversary of the tourbillon, the gravity-defying invention of Abraham Louis Breguet. The tourbillon has become a classic feature of watchmaking, with Breguet’s invention becoming the standard for independent watchmakers looking to make a name for themselves.
The watch industry isn’t necessarily known for collaborations, but the H. Moser x MB&F Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon is born from a shared ethos in watchmaking and a defiant respect for tradition. Seamlessly blending the ultra-minimalist aesthetic ofwith the futuristic sculptural shapes of MB&F, the Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon is a fantastic celebration of what collaborations should be.
The H. Moser & Cie. x MB&F Endeavour Cylindrical Tourbillon is a celebration of horology and its ultimate complication: the tourbillon.
The signature feature of this watch is the flying tourbillon, which is showcased in the signature H. Moser fumé dial. The flying tourbillon is the same technology in the MB&F Legacy Machine Flying T, but in a single-axis tourbillon that highlights the beauty of the Moser cylindrical hairspring. Using the conical gears from the MB&F Legacy Machine Flying T, the sapphire dial is inclined to 40° to make it legible and personal to the wearer. The sapphire dial allows the fumé dial to shine through and does not detract from the watch overall.
The domed sapphire crystal, at 19.5mm tall, gives the watch an MB&F feel and gives the wearer the impression of staring at a city underneath the sapphire dome. Perhaps my favorite feature of this watch is that it can be worn with the dial facing the wearer, allowing for easy reading of the time, or with the tourbillon facing the wearer. In this orientation, the time must be read upside down…or by turning the wrist just a little more, the wearer is granted a view that offers full appreciation of the watch.
At 42mm, I would argue that this watch wears smaller than the size suggests, with the domed crystal taking up some visual space. Encased in steel, the watch has a delightful wrist presence and has endless aesthetic appeal. The strap can be changed and there are any number of options, given which dial color you go for. I would love to see this watch on the H. Moser signature Kudu strap. While not a daily wearing piece, this watch is perfect for special occasion or weekend wear. #TourbillonTuesday and #FuméFriday have never looked so good.
