In Focus: Bulgari Octo Finissimo Middle East Edition

When you try on a Bulgari Octo Finissimo for the first time, you are immediately struck by just how thin the watch is. I have struggled to understand how Bulgari was able to execute this collection; each piece is an incredible feat of engineering. Putting on this lightweight, ultra-thin Genta inspired watch is a great way to reinforce that Bulgari simply makes a fantastic watch.

The lacquered Eastern Arabic numerals on this timepiece immediately jump out at you. Designed in a green hue that is similar to British Racing Green, the numerals have a depth and volume to them, as the layers of lacquer add a three-dimensional element to the dial. Looking closely at each numeral, you can see how the lacquer curves off to the edges of each marking, lending softer shapes and flowing lines to an otherwise angular dial. The skeletonized hands also have a unique angled shape, complementing the angles and facets around the bezel and dial to impart an incredible geometric puzzle for the eyes.

Powering this watch is the ultra-svelte Bulgari BVL-138 caliber which features a platinum micro-rotor and measures just over 2 millimeters in height. This allows the case profile to be 5.2 millimeters thin – which is unbelievably thin for any watch. The in-house automatic movement has a 55-60 hour power reserve, and is an absolute joy to observe.

Perhaps my favorite feature of the watch is the titanium bracelet, which is perfectly balanced against the geometric shape of the case, and like the case, is incredibly thin. Surrounding the deployment clasp, the inside of the bracelet links are hollowed out to allow the clasp to sit flush inside of the bracelet and not bite into your wrist. It is very well thought out, and breathes perfectly, ideal for those in warmer climates.

Bulgari has won me over with the Octo Finissimo collection, and this Middle East edition is incredibly special. I love the soft edges of the green lacquered numerals set against the infinite angles of the case, and the comfort of the bracelet. In short, this is the perfect summer watch.
