Bell & Ross BR01-94-S-Red: Limited Edition, Endless Appeal
Bell & Ross has defined the 21st century look of the aviation watch with the imagery of twentieth century analog cockpit technology. “Instrument” series models like this 46mm Bell & Ross BR01-94-S-Red limited edition of 500 pieces have created a cult following for the Paris-based, Swiss-manufactured watch brand.
Bell & Ross had been in business for over a decade when it launched the Instrument Series watches at Baselworld in 2005, but that moment is the one that has written the course of the company’s subsequent history.
With a look pulled straight from the flight deck of vintage aircraft, the Instrument watches broke with the generic (and often stale) “tool watch” forms that had been circulating in the luxury watch sector for decades. Each Bell & Ross BR01-94-S-Red features the now classic “gauge on the wrist” style that set enthusiast hearts aflutter and launched the brand into the limelight. A 46mm PVD-treated stainless steel case keeps the “flight deck” theme going strong.
Of course, the BR01-94-S-Red features a few notable distinctions from even the charismatic mainstream of the Instrument line. This aviation-inspired chronograph features an all-red font employing the rarely seen red variant of Super LumiNova luminescent paint.
For good measure, the red tint of this Bell & Ross chronograph is evocative of the aviation “ready room” and aircraft carrier below-decks lighting that is used to preserve pilot’s nighttime vision before missions. Granted, some artistic license is a given, but it’s all in good taste and good fun.
Also a versatile sports watch, the BR01-94-S –Red enjoys 10ATM (330 feet) of water resistance. Inside the flat and ergonomically sound case is an automatic-winding ETA caliber 2892-A2 – one of the toughest workhorse movements in the industry. With a vertical clutch chronograph module, the BR-01-94-S-Red can operate is chronograph continuously without hazard to the movement; this offers aesthetic and legibility advantages for those who prefer watches with a center-seconds function.
