In Focus: H. Moser & Cie. Venturer Arctic Blue
Looking at the H. Moser Venturer Arctic Blue fumé dial is like staring at the sea off Capri. You can almost feel the gentle salt air breeze and hear the waves lapping against the rocks. It’s easy to picture the sea moving as I look at the dial and, for a moment, I think the watch is alive. Encased in rose gold, H. Moser applied their minimalist “Concept” treatment to the watch, with nary a logo or name on the dial. It takes confidence to remove a brand name from the dial, and Moser has created a category of their own with the Concept series.
The dial is a stunning mistake. By Moser’s own admission, they arrived at the Arctic Blue colorway as the result of an accident in the process of trying to make their signature Funky Blue dial. In the words of Bob Ross, this is a perfectly happy accident, as I love the Arctic Blue and think it is the best blue dial Moser has ever produced.
The watch has the feeling of being alive. It’s not just the H. Moser manually wound HMC 327 caliber providing the watch with a 72-hour power reserve, it is the sum of the parts with which H. Moser has achieved a home run. At 39mm, the watch is wearable by anyone and is perfectly proportioned. The crown provides a positive winding engagement and is a pleasure with which to both set and wind the watch.
Moser chose to use their signature Kudu strap with this watch, and I think this was a fantastic choice. Kudu is known for its suppleness and durability, and for its imperfections. These imperfections create a perfect balance against the brilliance of the case and Arctic Blue fumé dial, adding a bit of wabi-sabi to an otherwise flawless execution.
The Venturer Arctic Blue Fumé is aesthetic perfection backed by the technical prowess of H. Moser and their in-house team at Precision Engineering.
