What, you might be asking, is the GPHG and why should I watch it? The GPHG is the Grand Prix Horlogerie de Genève, and it’s the closest thing that the watch industry has to the Academy Awards. Every year, brands both big and small, from titans like Audemars Piguet, Bulgari, and Chopard to independents like Akrivia, Greubel Forsey, and Grönefeld go toe to toe in Geneva, competing in categories like Best Chronograph, Best Diver’s Watch, Best Ladies’ Watch, and more, to see who the GPHG Academy has chosen as best of the year. The grand prize (the “Aiguille d’Or”) and all the other categories can be very unpredictable, and dark horse winners are not uncommon.

Join us to see the awards ceremony stream live – it’s guaranteed entertainment for watch enthusiasts and as with the Academy Awards, be prepared to cheer for your favorites, boo winners who you think don’t deserve the nod, and try to understand industry-insider jokes in French (fair warning, this shindig is happening in Geneva, so it’s conducted in French, but don’t let that stop you).

Burning questions will be answered. Can the Tudor Pelagos FXD beat out strong competition in the Diver’s category from the likes of Grand Seiko and TAG Heuer? Do the Grönograaf Tantalum and the MB&F Sequential EVO make for a race for first in the Chronographs category that is too close to call. What in the world is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Selfwinding Flying Tourbillon Ultra-Thin “RD#3” doing rubbing shoulders in the Ladies’ category with Chaumet and Van Cleef & Arpels? Find out when we go live with the GPHG, from a town on Lac Leman that’s the capital city of Swiss watchmaking.
