Where’s WatchBox?
The Foundation of WatchBox
Founded in 2017 by Danny Govberg, Justin Reis, and Tay Liam Wee, WatchBox was created to redefine the luxury watch marketplace. Unlike traditional retailers, WatchBox focused on the secondary market, offering pre-owned luxury watches with unparalleled transparency and authenticity. The brand quickly became a beacon for collectors seeking expertly curated timepieces and an environment of trust and community – engaging with likeminded enthusiasts who shared their passion for watches.
The Power of Expertise
One of WatchBox’s defining features was its commitment to education, led by the legendary Tim Mosso. Known for his encyclopedic knowledge and hands-on reviews, Mosso’s videos became a cornerstone of the brand’s content strategy alongside veteran horological expert, Jack Forster.
Beyond its editorial strength, WatchBox was powered by an extraordinary team of Client Advisors who are just as horologically obsessed. These dedicated professionals at WatchBox Hong Kong, to WatchBox Neuchatel and Zürich, and back to the WatchBox NYC and WatchBox Miami offices, worked tirelessly to connect clients with the watches they desired most. From building the perfect three-piece collection to curating an expansive portfolio representing every corner of the watch industry, WatchBox’s Client Advisors were integral to helping collectors bring their visions to life and continue to do so at The 1916 Company.
A Global Presence: Building Collector Communities Worldwide
From its flagship operations in the United States to its lounges in Hong Kong, Singapore, Switzerland, New York (NYC), Miami, and beyond, WatchBox established a truly global presence. Each Collector’s Lounge served as a physical extension of the brand’s online platform, offering a space where enthusiasts could gather, share stories, and explore the finest timepieces in person. With a seamless blend of digital innovation and personalized service, WatchBox globally bridged geographical boundaries, creating a worldwide network of collectors.
From WatchBox to The 1916 Company
In 2023, WatchBox came together with Govberg Jewelers, Radcliffe Jewelers, and Hyde Park Jewelers to form The 1916 Company, marking a new chapter in luxury retail. The merger was a strategic move to consolidate expertise, resources, and markets under one banner, ensuring that WatchBox’s legacy would endure as part of a broader vision – including new and pre-owned watches, as well as fine jewelry. The new entity continues to honor WatchBox’s values of authenticity, education, and community engagement, while expanding its offerings.
Preserving the Legacy of WatchBox
Although WatchBox as a standalone brand no longer exists, its spirit lives on through The 1916 Company. The passionate community, groundbreaking practices, and wealth of knowledge that defined WatchBox remain at the heart of its successor. Collectors can rest assured that the ethos of trust, transparency, and innovation continues to thrive. WatchBox global lounges remain open in New York, Miami, Neuchatel, Zürich, Singapore, and Hong Kong – but clients can also visit our boutiques in Philadelphia and it suburbs, Delaware, Baltimore, Denver, Scottsdale, and Newport Beach.
The 1916 Company brings an exciting new dimension to the experience for former WatchBox clients, whether you visited us at WatchBox HK, WatchBox Singapore or one of our other global offices. Collectors now gain access to over 40 prestigious watch brands as an authorized retailer. In addition to its robust watch offerings, The 1916 Company also introduces an exquisite selection of fine jewelry, catering to a wider array of luxury interests and providing clients with a comprehensive destination for all their horological and luxury needs.
Nothing Changes—Only Expands
The integration into The 1916 Company guarantees that the values collectors cherished about WatchBox remain unchanged. The focus on authenticity, transparency, and customer-first service continues, alongside the content and experiences that defined the WatchBox brand. Tim Mosso’s signature in-depth reviews, engaging horological education by Jack Forster, and the collective expertise of industry leaders will remain accessible to enthusiasts, now backed by the broader resources of The 1916 Company.
At The 1916 Company, these voices continue to shape a world-class educational platform. Whether through online content, events, or Collector’s Lounges, the dedication to enriching the knowledge of watch enthusiasts remains as vibrant as ever. Under this new banner, the passion for luxury timepieces not only endures but grows stronger, honoring WatchBox’s legacy while setting a bold course for the future.
